How To Find An Affiliate Marketing Niche – Turn Your Ideas Into Profits

Find your niche

You want to get rolling with your online business, but you get stuck on how to find an affiliate marketing niche.

Coming up with your unique and profitable niche market is the first step taken when creating an online business, and unfortunately, it can be a big road-block to your progress.

First and foremost, you need to identify what market or industry you want to be in and how you can build your business around that particular niche.

Often times when starting an internet marketing business, beginners put so much time and energy into trying to find a so-called “perfect niche” that it slows them down.  Finding a usable niche for your business shouldn’t take that much time, or be that difficult to come up with, but sometimes it is.

The good news is that there is an unlimited number of products and services for you to choose from, and once you do, you can start building your website around that particular niche.

Of course you want to do your research when researching your ideas, but it is always better to just pick something and get started. Remember, your starting niche doesn’t have to be your final niche.

Niche Summary

  • You should be passionate or knowledgeable about your niche
  • You will  be building your website and creating your main content around your niche
  • You will be promoting products and services related to your niche
  • You are going to solve common problems with your niche
  • Your niche will be a stepping stone and the way your website will generate a passive income

What Is Your Hobby Or Passion?

Now the reason you want to start an online business is to make money, right?

Sure it is.

But sometimes people will start by choosing a topic that they don’t have a real interest in, but feel like there is an opportunity to make money from it, so they go with it.

Unfortunately over time, though all the ups and downs, most will start to lose their focus and drive because it is something that they just don’t have a real passion for.

Grab a pen and paper and start writing down some of your interests or everyday problems.

What do you love to do as a hobby?

Is there something that you are good at the would benefit others? Do you have a solution to a common problem?

Will Your Audience Love Your Niche?

The whole idea of coming up with a profitable niche idea is to provide something of real value to your target audience. Something your customers will love.  Are you able to provide your customer what they are looking for?

While you might use a personal hobby or interest as your chosen niche, ultimately your online business is more about your customer’s needs, rather than you and your interests. Unfortunately, you will end up being of little use to your audience if no one wants what you are selling.

Your niche should draw people in and be marketable enough to continuously bring in new customers and make your existing customers wanting to come back for more.

Narrow Down Your Niche

One common mistake when looking for a niche is choosing one that is way too broad. You don’t necessarily have to try to sell every single person within that particular industry.

The ideal thing to do is find your main topic and come up with smaller sub-niches that you can target to a more defined customer base.

Like the ol’ saying goes, “if you try to sell to everyone, you will end up selling to no one”

As an example, maybe you are a personal trainer and want to use health and fitness as your main topic.

If you were to use a keyword research tool, you would see that health and fitness is a huge market with millions of monthly searches, but it is just way too broad.

You would be much better to come up with some smaller sub-niches related to the health and fitness industry.

For example, maybe you could go after people that want to lose weight. Then you could narrow it down even further by targeting men over the age of 40 that want to lose that beer belly.

Make It Better Than The Competition

Sometimes people have the wrong idea and think that competition is bad for business. That is not always the case.  Maybe the competition is a good thing because the niche that you choose could be profitable one because you know that others are making money with it too.

But you still need to do some research on some of the competing sites, and find out if you can still make money too.

Think about a couple of things here.

What can you do to make your business stand out over the others?

What can you do to make the experience better for the customer?

If your competing websites are lacking good quality content, it will be much easier for you to rank if you have strong keyword rich content that provides interesting and relevant information while keeping your audience engaged.

My advice would be to find a good keyword research tool that will tell you the number of competing websites ranked in Google for that same keyword or niche and the estimated visits to your website if you achieve first page rankings in Google.

Determine The Profitability Of Your Niche

Hopefully by now you have a better idea of what niche and market you want to be in. While there a millions of products or services you can promote, you still want to find one that will make you a decent commission.

Take Amazon for instance.  Amazon is probably the most popular affiliate program for getting started with internet marketing because you have access to just about every item on their website.

Some products and services have a flat bounty rate, while others have commissions ranging from 1.00% up to 10.00%.  It might seem like common sense, but you need to see if converting fewer higher priced items would be more beneficial than converting more lower priced items.

Conclusion

There are literally hundreds of thousands of niches you could promote to create a steady stream of income, and one niche website that was built using the same training is shown here.
